Simplexity, Wirefly's parent company, is headquartered in Washington, DC, and has been since its foundation in 1999. With over 500 employees in the Washington metropolitan area, we get involved in our local communities in a variety of ways -- including supporting local events such as the Wirefly National Marathon, which in turn benefits eleven District of Columbia youth organizations. Participants begin and end the Wirefly National Marathon at historic RFK Stadium and see many of DC's sights along the way, including the White House, the Tidal Basin, DC's famous fish market, and the site of the new baseball stadium that will stand near the Anacostia Waterfront.
The 2007 Wirefly National Marathon was held on Saturday, March 24, and featured nearly 5,000 runners competing in both a full and half-marathon - including DC Mayor Adrian Fenty, who completed the 26-mile course in 4 hours and 8 minutes. Defending champion Michael Wardian crossed the finish line first for the second time in a year; the Arlington, VA native clocked a world-class winning time of 2:26. Boulder, CO's Katie Blackett took the prize in the women's field.
We're proud to be the title sponsor of the Wirefly National Marathon and hope you'll join Wirefly in supporting an event that is already becoming a Washington tradition.
Additional Wirefly National Marathon sponsors include: PriceWaterhouseCoopers, NBC 4, Gatorade, American Airlines and Michelob Ultra. View the Wirefly National Marathon Sponsors Page for a full list of event sponsors.
